  2. A Program simplify adding and extracting sounds from DOOM

  8.  
  9. This program should be fairly simple to use.  Just run DMSND and specify
  10. if you have the registered version of DOOM or not, where the sound files are
  11. (or are to be put), where your DOOM program is installed and whether you want
  12. your DOOM.WAD file to be backed up (only applicable for installing new
  13. sounds).

  15. Note that the sound files are expected to be in the format 01.WAV through
  16. 61.WAV (49.WAV for shareware DOOM), or 01.SND through 61.SND (or 49.SND).

  18. Note also that this program expects to find the DMAUD program in your PATH.
  19. The DMAUD program was written by Bill Nesius.  I hope he doesn't mind me
  20. including version 1.1 with this distribution.

  22. *** Some Examples:

  24. 1. Extracting your current DOOM sounds
  25.  
  26. Run DMSND
  27. Specify whether you have the registered or shareware version of DOOM
  28. installed.
  29. Specify the directory where DOOM is installed
  30. Specify the directory to extract the sound files to (the directory need not
  31. exist, and should preferably be an empty directory)
  32. Choose "Install/Extract Sounds"
  33. Choose "Extract Current Sounds"
  34. If all goes well, you should have a bunch of sound files (in .WAV format) in
  35. your chosen sound directory.

  37. 2. Installing new DOOM sounds
  38.  
  39. This program has been designed to install sound files with the format 01.WAV
  40. (or 01.SND) through 61.{WAV,SND} (49.{WAV,SND} for the shareware version).
  41. If you have a DOOM sound pack that doesn't follow this format, use the
  42. install routine that came with the sounds (if any) to install the sounds into
  43. DOOM, then follow the steps in procedure 1 above ("Extracting your current
  44. DOOM sounds") to get the sound files into the DMSND format.

  46. Run DMSND
  47. Specify whether you have the registered or shareware version of DOOM
  48. installed.
  49. Specify the directory where DOOM is installed
  50. Specify the directory where the new sound files are, see the note above for
  51. the proper filename format for the sounds.
  52. Choose whether you want the DOOM.WAD file backed up (to DOOMWAD.BAK)
  53. Choose "Install/Extract Sounds"
  54. Choose "Install new sounds"
  55. If all goes well, your new sounds should now be installed into DOOM.  Start
  56. DOOM and try it out!
